Police revealed that the owner had left the extremely rare Porsche 911 Targa in an underground parking area in the area of Spinnerweg, in the town of Haan, North Rhine-Westphalia State, Germany, on 1st February.

But when he reportedly returned to the site about six months later last Friday (18th August), the luxury sports car with removable roof was nowhere to be found.

Investigations by the police revealed that the orange-coloured vehicle was stolen within the past two months, after locals reportedly saw it parked in June.

Following the report cops initiated an international search and turned to the public for more information on the missing vintage car.

Mettmann Police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The stolen car is a 1968 Porsche 911 Targa in a striking orange paint job (original ‘Porsche Orange’).

“In addition, distinctive so-called “Fuchs wheels” are attached to the car.

“The license plate reads ‘OB – EB 155H’. The value of the vehicle is estimated at around EUR 100,000 [GBP 85,000].”

It was not disclosed why the owner had left the vehicle unattended in an underground parking lot for more than six months.

The two-door Targa top sportscar was produced by German automobile giant Porsche AG between 1966 and 1989.

Its name – meaning plate of plaque in Italian – originated from the Targa Florio sports car road race in Sicily in which the company had scored seven victories since 1956, with four more to come through 1973.
