A 12-year-old boy hung himself from the roof of his house after arguing with his seven-year-old sister.

The tragic incident happened in the town of Cosios, in the central Mexican state of Aguascalientes.

According to national news outlet Excelsior, the 12-year-old boy, Ricardo, had stayed home alone whilst his mother went out briefly with his little sister.

According to Excelsior, Ricardo and his sister had been arguing beforehand, although no details have been published about what the fight was about.

One of their neighbours, Raymundo Campos, spoke in an interview with Imagen TV, saying: “We work the land and my daughter called us, we ran down to the road and he was already there.

“His mother got there first, she got him down, they have a tiled roof and he was there in the roof.”

According to Excelsior, emergency services arrived on the scene and attempted to resuscitate the little boy, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to Campos, his children had been playing with Ricardo and his sister in the street just hours earlier.

Campos said: “They played with my kids and the father was there together with them, looking after them.”

Another neighbour, Manuela Munoz, also spoke to Imagen TV saying: “It is very sad, because he was very young… They were a very reserved family.

“I told the mother not to blame herself, there is no blame here or guilty persons, she says that maybe because she had to work, but those children were not alone, I don’t know what to say to her, I just know they were very calm children.”

There is no further information as to whether police will investigate further into the incident.
