An 11-month-old baby has tragically drowned in a private pool in Majorca whilst his parents were having a nap.

The saddening incident occurred in a private pool in the municipality of Calvia on the Balearic island of Majorca in the Spanish Balearic Islands on Sunday evening.

According to local news outlet El Diario De Mallorca, the baby’s parents were taking a nap when his three-year-old brother decided to take him outside to play near the pool.

According to the news outlet, the baby is believed to have fallen into the pool, although there are no further details as to how it happened.

The older brother immediately ran and woke up his parents who jumped in the pool and retrieved the tot.

The parents called the emergency services, and whilst an ambulance was on its way, medics gave them instructions on what to do to keep their baby alive over the phone.

A specialised ambulance unit arrived at the house accompanied by local police officers and members of the Spanish Civil Guard.

According to El Diario de Mallorca, the baby still had a pulse when the paramedics reached him, but was unresponsive and therefore immediately rushed to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Son Espases.

The local police and Civil Guard officers reportedly went in front of the ambulance to clear the road of traffic to help the vehicle arrive at its destination as quickly as possible.

However, the tot’s condition worsened and he was declared dead in the hospital on Monday, 20th July.

There is no further information as to whether police are investigating the parents over the death of their son.
