A Chinese gambler has been arrested in Vietnam for the gruesome murder of a young woman who lent him money to visit the casino after her body parts were found in a suitcase floating in a river.

The incident took place at the foot of Tran Thi Ly Bridge in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang when a fisherman was sailing with his wife.

The unnamed man fished the suitcase out of the water and reportedly found several parts of a human body stuffed inside – but not the head.

He alerted the local authorities and a police teams scoured the area after investigators noticed from the water flow that the suspect could have thrown the suitcase into the river from the Tuyen Son Bridge.

They soon found another bag covered with tape which reportedly contained a human head and feet.

The victim was later identified as Chinese woman Bao DanPing, 30, who entered Vietnam in December last year.

Cops staked out the property the victim had rented on Truong Van Hien Street and they noticed a suspicious-looking man stop his motorbike in front of the house and rush up to the third floor, according to reports.

Police chief Vu Xuan Vien gave the nod for officers to arrest the man and they detained Chinese citizen Xiao Guiping, 27, in a raid half an hour later.

Under interrogation, Guiping reportedly confessed to killing the woman following a row about money.

According to local media, Guiping was good at gambling and DanPing, who was a friend of his girlfriend, made a pact that she would fund his bets at the Crowne Plaza casino and if he made money, they would split the profits.

Guiping won 34,000 USD (26,365 GBP) on the first night, but lost nearly double that amount over the next two trips to the casino, according to reports.

Instead of splitting the losses, DanPing reportedly demanded all the money back and the subsequent row resulted in the young man allegedly killing her.

The cops did not reveal how she was killed.

The victim’s body was then dismembered, placed in bags and thrown into the river, according to reports.

Local media said that Guiping’s girlfriend has been arrested as well as the investigation continues.
