This is the shocking moment when a man repeatedly stabs his ex-wife in the middle of the street who divorced him eight months prior following a decade long marriage that was marked by constant beatings and abuse.
Esma D., 31, divorced Levent Evrensel, 36, eight months ago due to his violent behaviour towards her and their children.
Esma was walking home in the Turkish province of Sivas at 6pm on Sunday (5th September) when her ex caught a glimpse of her.

As seen in the security camera footage, Evrensel brutally attacked his ex-wife the moment he was able to get this hands-on her stabbing her repeatedly all over the body.
Bystanders eventually come to the woman’s aid, but her ex-husband holds his knife out, threatening them to stand back or they will also get hurt.
The crowd were eventually able to intervene, and Evrensel was forced to let his ex-wife go before he could kill her.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, and Esma was transferred to the Sivas Cumhuriyet University Medical Faculty Hospital.
She underwent treatment for multiple injuries and was later discharged, but still hasn’t recovered from the wounds.
Evrensel was arrested by police, and placed in preliminary detention, where he is being held whilst the investigation is completed.

The local new site DHA reports that Esma was abused throughout her marriage to Evrensel, who routinely beat her.
She said: “Throughout our 12-year marriage, I was exposed to violence, but I couldn’t get a divorce because I have three children.”
She added: “Eventually, the abuse became too much, and I decided to leave him.”

She explained that Evrensel had tried to get her back by reminding her that they had kids and that they should try again for their sake.
Esma refused to take him back, and that’s why she believes he attacked her on the street.
She said: “I’m terrified he will try and hurt me and my family again. I’ve taken protection orders against him for my own safety. I don’t want to live in fear.”

The terrified mother says she barely sleeps at night as the thought of being attacked again by her ex haunts her even though he is currently in custody.
She said: “I don’t want to see him again. I don’t want him to find me and my children.”
She concluded by saying that she plans to start taking self-defence classes so the next time she is attacked by her ex, she can protect herself and her children.

It is not clear how old Esma’s children are.
The investigation is ongoing.
