These images show Ukrainian forces destroying a moving Russian Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile system in the Donetsk Oblast.
The footage shows a Russian Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile system and a target acquisition radar (TAR) 9S36 moving on a road before being hit by ordnance fired from a Ukrainian HIMARS multiple-launch rocket system in a huge blast.
The images were obtained from the 3rd Separate Regiment of the SpP named after Prince Svyatoslav the Brave of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Monday, 1st January, along with a statement saying: “Ukrainian Armed Forces fire artillery at enemy Buk SAM in Donetsk region.
“During reconnaissance operations in the Donetsk sector, operators of the 3rd separate regiment of the Special Forces spotted a Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile system and a 9S36 detection and targeting station, which is part of the system.
“The Buk system is designed, in particular, to engage aircraft, tactical ballistic and airborne missiles, surface and ground targets.
“The SAS operators directed the fire of a missile unit of the Defence Forces at the enemy Buk-M2 and radar. As a result of professional adjustment and accurate fire, the enemy’s equipment was destroyed.
“Let’s move on!”
The images and statement were also relayed by the Office of Strategic Communications and by the Command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 2nd January 2024. Russia had lost approximately 360,820 personnel, 5,990 tanks, 11,100 armoured combat vehicles, 8,531 artillery units, 945 multiple launch rocket systems, 626 air defence systems, 329 warplanes, 324 helicopters, 6,710 drones, 1,710 cruise missiles, 23 warships, 1 submarine, 11,365 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 1,284 units of special equipment.
Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv following a drone assault, as reported by the capital’s military administration.
This escalation follows Ukrainian strikes on the Russian city of Belgorod.
Earlier, Russia had deployed 35 attack drones on Ukraine, all destroyed by air defence systems, causing a fire in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district.
