A Turkish court has refused to keep in custody the estranged lover of this beautiful young DJ whom he allegedly tried to kill by getting her to jump off a cliff after she told him she wanted to end the relationship.
Betul Gundogar, 25, who is a nurse in the Turkish province of Izmir alongside also working as a model and DJ, believes that the court’s failure to restrain him and simply issuing him with a restraining order ahead of the trial is a death sentence for her.
She believes that he will carry out his threat and wants her voice to be heard so that something can be done before that happens.
She said that he kidnapped her off the street after she told him that she wanted to end the relationship, and that he forced to go to a forest area in the province of Manisa on 8th October.
Once there, the boyfriend, identified only as M. D., tried to force her to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff.
She said it was only by begging him and promising not to leave him that he allowed her not to jump, and instead allowed her to travel back with him to the city centre where she was able once he was distracted to jump out of the car and run away.
The terrified and distraught young woman was rescued by people who saw her running away, and they stopped him from taking her again.
She said that she immediately filed a complaint with the police, and an investigation was launched against M. D. on charges of ‘deprivation of liberty’, ‘insult’ and ‘threat’. M.D. was arrested but simply released back onto the streets after his statement was taken.
She said it was only when she complained again that the Manisa 1st Family Court ordered a restraining order for M.D., which will last for just two months.
Speaking to DHA, she said: “I wanted to break up with him, but he told me ‘You can’t leave so easily’.”
She said he added: “This will not end unless I want it to.”
Betul stated that something must be done before he gets the chance to carry out his threat, saying: “He continues to threaten me. A restraining order is not enough to protect me. I am so scared.”
She added: “He made my life a nightmare.”
It is not clear whether the investigation initiated after Betul’s complaint continues.
