Martha Aurora Ramirez Luis, 19, and Claudia Izbeth Gonzalez Perales, 34, vanished without a trace in General Escobedo, north-eastern Mexico on 26th November.

They were last seen getting into a taxi they had ordered on a mobile phone app. They had failed to tell their families where they were heading.

Police arrested two suspects, who reportedly confessed to having killed two women and stashed their bodies in a warehouse under construction, on 30th November.

Officials and forensic experts went to the site, where they found the women’s remains, the following day.

Martha’s devastated mother confirmed one of the corpses belonged to her daughter at the Institute of Forensic Sciences on 1st December.

Maricela Luis Gallegos told local media: “I’ve been to identify the body, and yes, it’s my daughter, my ‘negrita’.”

Chillingly, she told how Martha’s unborn baby was missing from her womb, saying: “I’m doubly hurt for my ‘negrita’, my baby. Where’s her baby?

“They don’t want to tell me, I have the right to hold a wake for him, to have him handed to me, he’s not a foetus, he was about to be born.”

Maricela has appealed online for donations so she can pay for her daughter’s funeral and burial.

She said: “My only request is that justice be done and that I get support for the funeral services.”

Local media said they had contacted the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the baby’s whereabouts but had received no reply at the time of reporting.

An average of 10 women a day are killed in Mexico.
