This is the moment a Tour de France cyclist making his way up a steep ascent signs an autograph for a fan as he continues cycling.

The incident took place on the 14th stage of the Tour de France as the riders were making their way up to the Col du Tourmalet, the highest paved mountain pass in the French Pyrenees, located in the department of Hautes-Pyrenees.

In the video, Slovakian cyclist Peter Sagan, 29, who rides for UCI WorldTeam Bora–Hansgrohe, can be seen making his way up the mountain slope when a fan runs alongside him and tries to hand him a photo and a pen.

The cyclist takes the objects and signs for the photo for the desperate fan without stopping his ascent of the slope. The fan, who has not been identified, can be seen celebrating wildly after his hero signed the photo. He said: “He signed!”

The video was posted with the caption: “A great day yesterday with the @carteldebenelin at Tourmalet to see @letourdefrance and this arrival at the summit. And as a bonus, an autograph by @petosagan during the ascent.”

The 14th stage was the toughest mountain stage so far of the 2019 Tour de France and saw overall race leader Julian Alaphilippe extend his lead over current champion Geraint Thomas. French rider Thibaut Pinot won the 117-kilometre stage and currently sits in fourth in the general classification.
