A teenage motocross enthusiast has died after her dirt bike smashed into a tractor that her dad was using to haul a trailer full of timber.
Martina Lilla, 15, died following the accident involving her father, Luigi, on Provincial Road 142 in the town of Armeno in the province of Novara in the northern Italian region of Piedmont on 27th September.
According to witnesses, there was a forceful impact between the two vehicles, which ended with the timber being transported on the trailer falling onto the teenager and trapping her underneath.
Emergency crews went straight to the scene and spent around 45 minutes reviving the girl after freeing her from underneath the wooden logs.
She was then taken by helicopter to the intensive care unit of the Maggiore della Carita University Hospital in the city of Novara in critical condition.
Despite doctors’ best efforts, she died of her injures on the same evening.
Martina was attending school in the city of Verbania, and she was known for her passion for motocross.
She was a member of the Armeno Motocross Club, which expressed its condolences on its Facebook page, writing: “On the track, there will be a great void without you.”
She leaves behind two grieving parents and a younger sister.
It is unclear whether the incident will be investigated further by the authorities.
