Pics shows: The rubbish on the beach; This is the moment outraged islanders film their capital’s beachfront boulevard messed up by litterbug tourists, adding to the increasing resentment caused by 'over-tourism'. Footage released by Facebook group ‘Islanders Fed Up With Saturation’ was filmed in Palma, capital of Majorca in the Spanish Balearic Islands. The clip was accompanied by the message: "Just yesterday! How long will this go on for?" In the video, scores of mostly-topless tourists, some seen sleeping on public lawns, mingle among rubbish dropped during a night of boozing. Countless empty bottles, food wrappers and odds and ends line the boulevard. The camera zooms in on a mound of litter left on the otherwise-picturesque beach. The same Facebook group also shared a photo of a tourist climbing a large palm tree late at night. Many pictures of graffiti daubed in town areas reading "tourists go home" have also been circulated on social media. According to local media, since last month the resort has become full of tourists seeking balmy Mediterranean thrills. Much of the tourism, according to many locals, is young binge-drinking groups who "do not respect anything". Residents are also concerned by rising crime that accompanies busy holiday seasons, as pick pockets and drug organisations take full advantage of the hordes of excited holidaymakers. As do local landlords, who are accused of hiking up rent prices through online portals such as Airbnb, forcing workers and residents out of their home towns. Last week, neighbouring island Ibiza made the headlines when tourists were being offered bunk-bed ‘accommodation’ on an apartment balcony for 50 EUR (44 GBP) a night. In summer 2017, councillor for tourism in Ibiza Town Vicente Torres said: "The relatively recent arrival of online platforms like Airbnb has already created an unsustainable situation. We want to see rented accommodation priced for long-term residents, not short-term tourists."
