A gorgeous globe-trotting Brazilian influencer who stayed in some of the world’s most exotic locations has been arrested after police discovered her with a pound of cocaine disguised as food supplement tablets.
The famous Brasilian blogger, Lais Crisostomo Aguiar, from the state of Minas, was arrested at the Sao Paulo International Airport in the municipality of Guarulhos when she was about to board a flight to Dubai on 5th August.
The amount of the drug found meant that if she had been allowed to continue to Dubai and been caught there, she would have been classified as a dealer and would have faced the death penalty.
Her alleged accomplice, Peterson de Souza Fontes, was also detained after customs officers in her homeland detected a total of 461 grams (1 lb) in her suitcase during x-ray scans.
Lais, who was a law student and was followed by over 410,000 people on Instagram, often posted pictures of her vacations which included exotic locations such as the Maldives.
Local media reported that she was on her way to the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates when she was caught by police with the drugs.
Customs officers found the suspicious substance hidden inside pill vials and disguised as food supplement tablets which she was allegedly hoping to smuggle with her to the Persian Gulf coast.
Lais and Peterson de Souza Fontes denied having any connection with the drugs but were arrested and accused of drug trafficking.
The striking influencer was placed at the Sao Paulo Women’s Penitentiary, which is the largest female prison in the country and where she demanded to be released, claiming she was not aware that there were drugs in her suitcase.
However, federal judge Valdeci dos Santos did not validate her complaint because according to him the “cocaine was hidden in her bag along with other items of hers”.
Valdeci dos Santos also added: “The amount of cocaine found in the accused woman’s possession cannot classify her as a user, but makes it clear that she was contributing to promotion of organized crime, social crime and profit that would be obtained with its [the drug’s] commercialization”.
Due to COVID-19 regulations, the beautiful influencer is currently isolated from other prisoners and undergoing a 14-day quarantine at the Sao Paulo Women’s Penitentiary as of 6th August.
The investigation continues.
