A fisherman bit off more than he could chew when he hooked a huge bull shark from his kayak.

Brandon Barton 38, is a professional kayak fishing guide from Pensacola, Florida, who has been kayak fishing for over 10 years.

Speaking to Newsflash about the unexpected catch, he said: “Hooked this big bull shark and fought for 45 minutes, and just cut the line when it got close.”

He shared the footage on his Instagram account ’emerald_coast_kayak_fishing’ with the question: “what do I do now?”.

The bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) is listed as “threatened” on the IUCN Red List and is also regarded as dangerous as it is thought responsible for the majority of nearshore shark attacks.

It has the name because of its stocky shape and flat snout as well as its aggressive behaviour.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission lists it as a “common apex predator that can be found on estuarine, nearshore and offshore waters of both the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of Florida”.
