Retrial For Millionaires Son Who Crashed McLaren Killing Teen Girl After He Contests 14 Month Suspended Sentence

A 26-year-old millionaire’s son who walked away unscathed after crashing his 570-HP McLaren into a tree at speed in an incident that killed an 18-year-old girl after she was thrown from the vehicle is set to be retried after he disputed his 14-month suspended sentence.

The victim, who has been named only as Gina P., 18, due to strict local privacy laws, died when Lars D.’s leased McLaren 570S crashed into a tree at speed in a fatal crash that occurred on the A52 motorway near Kettwig, which is the southernmost borough of the city of Essen in western Germany’s state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in March 2019.

The defendant, who is reportedly the son of a millionaire whose name has not been revealed, walked away unscathed from the incident involving the British sports car, which can reach speeds of 204 mph (328 kph), and was given a suspended sentence of 14 months of probation for negligent homicide.

This appears to have been too harsh a sentence for him, as he reportedly instructed his lawyers to contest the ruling. But he may get more than he bargained for.

The sentence was upheld by the Essen District Court but now the Hamm Higher Regional Court has disagreed with the verdict issued by the Essen District Court, forcing a retrial.

In its ruling, the higher court deemed the ruling against the defendant, who had leased the vehicle just two days prior to the crash, “incomplete and contradictory”.

The district court had deemed that the boy racer, who was 23 at the time of the crash, benefited from diminished responsibility because he was supposedly not used to driving sports cars but the higher court appears to disagree with this, as the driver reportedly had significant experience driving Ferraris, Lamborghinis and other sports cars.

The victim’s mother, who has been named as Claudia B., 53, says that she is shocked and disappointed and finds it difficult to understand why the courts have not given her justice over her daughter’s death.

Claudia said: “I was stunned and shocked. For three years I have struggled through the day, now I was hoping for a worthy conclusion. Mr D. could at least have been decent enough to accept the sentence, especially since it was probationary.

“Because the fact is that my daughter died because of his overconfidence.”

It is currently unclear when the next court date will take place.
