PLANELY CHEAPER : Inventor Bamboo-zles Experts With Homemade GBP 11 Drone

A man from eastern China has created a fully-operational drone from eight bamboo sticks that cost him just GBP11 to build.

The flying fan – named as Mr Zhao in local media in the city of Jining, Shandong Province – was devastated when he flew his expensive drone into a tree smashing it to pieces.

But he could not afford to replace it with a new one.

So instead, he decided to build one from scratch and went online to snap up motors, propellers, driving equipment and electronic remote controls for just CNY 100 (GBP 11).

And instead of expensive injection moulded bodywork, he tied the whole lot to eight bamboo sticks.

Footage of his invention’s test flight shows the drone’s engines starting up before it zooms up into the air at high speed.

The device is able to fly smoothly and properly perform its basic functions.

And to keep his drone looking good, Mr Zhao also designed a fake camera for it.

“Just for the aesthetic feeling,” he explained.

But Mr Zhao plans to improve his design soon and said the updated version will include an actual camera.
