This is the heart-stopping moment a man clears thick snow from the roof of a block of flats without any safety measures, drawing gasps from the filming neighbours.

The incident was filmed in the city of Elazig in the east-central Turkish province of the same name, and was circulated by local media on 28th January.

According to the news site Son Dakika, the city has been battered by several days of snowfall, prompting one man to clear the snow from the building roof with nothing but a shovel.

The man laboured on the steep, sloped apartment block roof for several minutes as neighbours looked on in shock.

In the footage, two men are heard gasping and exclaiming at the daredevil snow clearer’s unusual methods.

From the opposite building, the man is seen standing on the apartment block’s roof while apparently using a shovel to clear the thick snow, but no safety gear.

The two onlookers gasp as the man approaches the edge of the roof to push some excess snow to the ground far below.

At the end of the video, the man is seen walking over the far end of the roof to clear some snow there too.

It is unclear how long the man spent clearing snow on the roof without a harness or safety equipment.
