This is the moment a one-year-old girl sits with her head down in front of a crowd of gawping onlookers after allegedly being tied to a park bench and abandoned by her mother.

The incident was filmed at the Paseo Bravo park in the city of Puebla located in the south-central Mexican state of the same name, and the footage has been widely shared on social media.

According to reports, several residents allegedly saw the moment the mother, named as 27-year-old Kiara N., tie the one-year-old tot to the bench before leaving her there.

The footage shows the poor girl sitting dejected on the park bench in front of a crowd of onlookers as a police officer arrives to talk to her.

A sign was propped up next to her that read: “If they won’t let me have both my babies together then I don’t want her.”

It is currently unclear what the message is referring to.

According to local media, Kiara N. was arrested after eyewitnesses described the suspect to the police and they allegedly apprehended her as she tried to flee from the area.

She has since admitted to being the girl’s mother, according to reports.

Kiara N. has been placed in police custody and her young daughter is being looked after by social services.

It is unclear where the one-year-old will eventually go to live and what punishment Kiara N. faces.

The investigation is ongoing.
