Football legend Diego Maradona reportedly hid a shoebox under his bed with his most loved possessions and secretly tasked his chef to give to a family member after he died.

The revelations came from lawyer Mauricio D’Alessandro during an interview with the Argentine television programme America Noticias.

D’Alessandro is the lawyer of Matias Morla who was Diego Maradona’s representative until he died at home in the city of Tigre in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires on 25th November.

D’Alessandro revealed that Maradona, 60, moved into the flat in Tigre as it was chosen as the place where he would recover from brain surgery.

During the move, Maradona asked the mother of one of his biological sons named Veronica Ojeda to find two safes to take to his new residence where he could place some of his most valuable possessions.

However, she was only able to find one safe so Maradona decided to put “the things he loved the most” in a shoebox he kept under his bed.

D’Alessandro explained: “Since he was depressed and never went out, he had the box right next to him.”

A cook who worked for the football legend named Monona was quick to get a hold of the shoebox after Maradona died and held on to it during the chaos that ensued from his passing.

Once everything calmed down and only the closest relatives remained at the house where Maradona died, Monona gave the box and its valuable contents to an unspecified family member.

The Argentine lawyer said it was a secret task Maradona had given the cook after the two developed a strong bond.

According to local newspaper Infobae, the contents included several Hublot watches, who Maradona had a publicity contract with, his wallet, gold chains, and his famous ring which was given to him when he became honorary president of a top-flight Belarusian club. (https://bit.ly/2KfVFK9)

Maradona always insisted the ring cost USD 300,000 (GBP 221,388).
