An Italian man allegedly shot and killed a 21-year-old mother of a two-year-old girl and then used the same gun to kill himself after cops caught up with him and were on the cusp of arresting him.

Alessandra Zorzin, 21, was allegedly killed by Marco Turrin, 38, in her apartment which she shared with her husband and two-year-old daughter in the town of Montecchio Maggiore in the Veneto region in Italy, yesterday (15th September)

According to local media, Alessandra was at home alone when the killer broke into the apartment. It is unclear why he carried out the murder and if he knew the victim.

Several neighbours called Alessandra’s husband, who was not named, after hearing a series of loud screams and then gunshots coming from the victim’s flat.

The victim’s husband, who was eating lunch with his parents after dropping the couple’s daughter at kindergarten, rushed home and found his wife in a pool of blood in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.

The police were immediately contacted who began searching for Turrin who was identified by several neighbours as the killer.

A restaurant owner who claims to have seen Turrin leaving the crime scene told local reporters: “I saw him leave the building, he walked away like nothing had happened, not rushing at all.”

Other witnesses came forward who told the police that they had also seen Turrin leaving the crime scene and getting into a black Lancia Ypsilon.

Turrin became the number one suspect on the case and the police were able to track his car down to the Creazzo neighbourhood.

Two patrol cars followed the suspect and eventually boxed him in at which point Turrin pulled out the same gun he allegedly used to kill Alessandra and shot himself in the head.

An ambulance arrived at the scene but the suspect died almost instantly.

The investigation is ongoing.
