A pretty influencer has shown how she was left unrecognisable following a botched cosmetic procedure.
Shocking images show how the face of formerly pretty Mariana Michelini was left scarred and deformed by the botched facial harmonisation procedure.
Facial harmonisation uses non-surgical procedures such as botox and hyaluronic acid filler to modify facial features.
The procedure was carried out on Mariana, who was then working in a pharmacy, by a dental professional in Matao, south-eastern Brazil, in December 2020.
A shocking photo taken after the procedure shows her face bloated, swollen, and covered in stitches.
Mariana, now aged 34, had undergone the procedure in exchange for her advertising the dental professional’s services on social media.
She had assumed hyaluronic acid had been used, but a dermatologist found in June last year that she had actually been injected with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
PMMA fillers have been associated with severe complications, such as chronic inflammation, fibrotic nodules, skin yellowing, and eyelid malposition.
According to local media, around nine of 10 botched cosmetic procedures are found to have involved PMMA fillers.
The professional who carried out the procedure has reportedly filed a lawsuit prohibiting her identity and the name of her practice from being disclosed.
She is also reportedly suing Mariana for moral damages and defamation, while Mariana is suing her over the botched procedure.
Mariana, who has 15,000 followers on Instagram, believes she can prove in court that the filler she was injected with was not the one she was promised.
She also believes she can prove that the botched procedure had resulted in adverse effects on her looks, state of mind, and finances.
Mariana said: “My life has stopped, I’m psychologically broken. I just want my face back.”
She added: “I’m suffering a lot, but I have faith that justice will be served, I don’t want other people to go through this.”
According to the Regional Council of Dentistry, dentists are authorised to carry out facial harmonisation.
Mariana is now reportedly receiving treatment to fix her face at a hospital in Ribeirao Preto.
