The incident took place in the West Zone of the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo on the night of Tuesday 15th June.
According to reports, it was Thalya Hellen Deus’ ex-boyfriend’s father who convinced the teen to go to their apartment to talk to his son to try to rekindle their relationship.
After arriving, Thalya went to 24-year-old Thayan Alves’ room, where the pair tried to reconcile, but a row broke out and Thayan locked the door shortly before firing three gunshots.
He fired two shots at Thalya, who was hit in the knee and the back of the head and died at the scene. He then tried to kill himself with a gunshot to the head.
Thayan’s father was in the living room at the time and rushed to his son’s room and broke down the door after hearing the gunshots, when he came upon the grim scene.
Thayan was then taken to the University of Sao Paulo Faculty of Medicine Clinics Hospital alive and conscious, where he underwent surgery.
At the time of reporting, he remained in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
According to relatives, the couple’s relationship lasted for a year and was marked by fights, arguments, breakups and reconciliations. The pair had separated a month before the crime.
According to reports, Thayan had been extremely controlling during their relationship and had threatened Thalya a number of times following their last breakup.

The crime was registered as femicide followed by attempted suicide at the Women’s Police Station in the district of Freguesia do O in the North Zone of the city.
