A Japanese court has ruled that a 37-year-old woman must compensate the husband of a woman with whom she was having a lesbian affair.

The Tokyo District Court ruled that the unnamed woman must pay JPY 110,000 (GBP 732) to the unnamed man, 39, on 16th February.

According to Japanese media, the two women met online and arranged a number of sexual liaisons.

Upon finding out, the husband of one of the women decided to take legal action, as adultery constitutes a suable offence under Japanese law.

The woman in question claimed during her trial that the complainant knew of her relationship with his wife, 35, and that he gave his consent to it.

The man, however, told the court he was happy for the women to see each other but not for them to engage in sexual relations.

Lawsuits over same-sex adultery cases are rare in Japan. However, the latest ruling follows another handed down by the Tokyo High Court last year, in which a woman was ordered to compensate her female partner for leaving her for a trans woman.
