The young Arctic explorer named Sarah Winkelmann, 27, aspires to become the first woman from her homeland to cross Greenland, starting at the end of April.

Using only her skis and a tent, the 27-year-old woman from the city of Bremen, Germany, reportedly plans to cover about 600 kilometres (372.8 miles) over a period of 30 days.

She currently lives in the city of Bergen, Norway, where she reportedly moved over the summer and worked as a hiking guide.

Sarah who has spent the last months doing yoga, cycling, and pulling tyres, and currently trains for over 20 hours per week, said: “I strap two truck tyres to my waist belt and pull them over the gravel.

“That simulates the 75-kilogramme (165 lbs) sled on the snow.”

Sarah who has a political sciences degree from Jacobs University in Germany, and the University of Cambridge in England, will reportedly be walking about 10 hours per day during the trip.

She said: “I will take up to 5,000 calories per day from packed food, twice as much as usual.”

As solo expeditions are considered too dangerous, the 27-year-old woman will be accompanied by nine other people in Greenland.

Sarah said: “Many think that polar bears are the most dangerous, but it is the cold.

“Toes, fingers or face can freeze at – 40 degrees.

“Three thin coats are enough during the day because I’m on the move. Several layers of down are needed in the tent at night.

“The worst part is when you have to go to the bathroom at night.”

When asked why she decided to undertake such a massive risk, she revealed that she wants her achievements to serve as an inspiration for young women around the globe.

She also added that all of her expeditions have so far been sustainable.

To finance her journey, Sara has reportedly collected EUR 10,000 (GBP 8,760) so far through a number of sponsors and donations.
