Hunt For Woman Shoplifter Who Dumped Baby In Stroller And Drove Off To Escape Cops

Cops are hunting a woman who stole clothes from a store and fled, leaving a baby girl in a pram behind to avoid being nabbed by off-duty cops.

The woman, whose identity has remained a mystery to officers from the Humble Police Department, was spotted stealing clothes worth about USD 600 (GBP 496) on Tuesday, 21st February.

She was reportedly inside Deerbrook Mall in the city of Humble, in Harris County, Texas State, USA, with her baby daughter and a male friend when an off-duty officer working an extra job caught them hiding the items in the child’s stroller.

The officer then immediately detained the man, but before they could react, the woman made a run for it with her child and the stroller.

Lt Michael Nansel from the Humble Police Department said: “The deputy gave chase into the parking lot, where she pushed the stroller away and ran to a car.

“The deputy made the decision to save the baby, as opposed to catching the theft suspect.

“So, he caught the baby, brought the baby back, took the man into custody, and called us.”

Following the incident, the Humble Police Department posted CCTV photos of the woman on their Facebook page and asked people with information about the woman’s identity to contact them.

They said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The Humble Police Department is seeking your assistance in identifying the following female suspect involved in a theft from the Dillard’s located at Deerbrook mall in Humble, Harris County, Texas.

“The suspect also abandoned a small child at the scene while fleeing.

“If you have any information on her identity, please contact the Humble Police Department and refer to case #23-000633. Ask for Detective Domilos.”

Nansel said that the department has so far received numerous tips from various informants.

The mother reportedly faces a misdemeanour theft charge and possibly another one for child endangerment or abandonment.

One shopper who found herself on-site at the time of the incident named Christiona Papillion, said: “I think we need to call CPS and take the child because, no, that’s just not good parenting.”

Another one named Bruce Evans added: “That’s pretty messed up, bro. I’m kind of worried about the baby. The baby’s got a messed up mother.”
