This footage shows drivers trying to brake on an icy ring road and hopelessly sliding into one another causing a huge pile-up involving over two dozen vehicles.

Footage from the South Outer Ring Road in Baoding’s Mancheng District, which is in North China’s Hebei Province, shows what witnesses have called ‘dodgem’-like scenes on 17th December.

Heavy fog causing low visibility lead to a series of vehicles rear-ending each other on the major ring road.

However, approaching drivers going the same way were also unable to brake in time despite having seen the accidents ahead.

Video shows their cars skidding and sliding along the multi-lane road, which authorities say was partially covered in ice.

The cars crash into one another as more than two dozen vehicles are damaged, and some 70 to 80 await towing off the road which became too dangerous to drive on due to the build-up of ice.

Video shows vehicles and car parts strewn across the road and facing different directions.

One witness, Mr Shang, recalled: “It was like dodgems crashing together.”

Mancheng District traffic police said one motorist was injured during the pile-up, but other drivers were unharmed during the multi-car collision.

They said the roadway was reopened to traffic about 50 minutes later.
