The 38-year-old woman, whose identity was not disclosed, was caught on camera swaying the newborn from an apartment where she allegedly lived with her family.

The apartment is reportedly located in a building on Gornaya Street in the village of Agoy, in the Tuapsinsky District, Krasnodar Krai, Russia.

The footage shows the mother holding the infant upside down from the seventh floor as she grips his leg and arm on Thursday, 27th October.

The child’s desperate cries for help then urge another child, reportedly the woman’s daughter, to approach and attempt to calm her mother down.

The case was reported to the police after an elderly couple from a neighbouring apartment witnessed the ghastly scenario.

A spokesperson from the police stated: “The cries of the baby and his older sister, who was trying to calm her mother, were heard by an elderly couple living in a neighbouring apartment.

“The man went out to his balcony and began to persuade the person to stop the illegal behaviour, and his wife at that time was able to enter the woman’s apartment, proceeded to the balcony and managed to take the baby from the suspect, after which she went home with both children.”

Following the report investigators immediately initiated a criminal case against the 38-year-old woman, based on a suspicion of attempted murder.

The police said: “Given the circumstances of the crime and the behaviour of the suspect, she will be submitted to psychological and psychiatric examinations.

“During the investigation, the family’s lifestyle and children’s upbringing conditions will be carefully studied, including if there were grounds to believe that the suspect’s legitimate rights and interests may be violated.”

The child reportedly did not suffer any injuries and is currently being taken care of by his grandmother.

The investigation is ongoing.
