A French pastry chef has prepared a sweet representation of the COVID-19 virus in a lighthearted attempt to “protect clients from fear and lunacy”.
Jean-Francois Pre from Landivisiau in the north-western French department of Finistere told local media: “We’ve been hearing a lot about coronavirus (COVID-19) in the media and we decided to make fun of it.”
Jean-Francois, who had previously made a confectionery replica of the Saint-Thegonnec Church in Brittany, said: “I wanted to make people laugh a little, to try to entertain them.

The talented confectioner, who has also created chocolate caricatures of presidential candidates in the past, explained: “It’s to avoid panic and protect clients from fear and lunacy.”
Images of Jean-Francois’ viral creation have been widely shared on social media and one netizen commented: “This guy came up with a good way of standing out and laughing at the hysteria surrounding the virus. Shame he is based far from me otherwise I would definitely place an order.”

Another social media user said: “I would like Jean-Francois Pre to make me one. Dark chocolate on the outside and milk chocolate inside with a nice raspberry surprise.”
According to local media, Jean-Francois will have a batch of virus confectioneries available in his store by Easter.
