Cops have named this former mayor’s glamorous daughter as a key figure in the fatal shooting of the current mayor’s daughter and three others outside a nightclub.
Paraguayan police named Paraguayan national Mirna Keldryn Romero, 22, as a key figure in the killings of two young Brazilians and two young Paraguayans in a notoriously lawless border city.
Haylee Carolina Acevedo Yunis, 21, Osmar Vicente “Bebeto” Alvarez Grance, 32, Kaline Reinoso de Oliveira, 22, and Rhannye Jamilly Borges de Oliveira, 18, lost their lives in the fatal incident.
The crime took place in the Paraguayan city of Pedro Juan Caballero, which lies on the border with the Brazilian city of Ponta Pora, in the early hours of Saturday, 9th October.
CCTV footage showed how the victims got into an SUV with a Brazilian licence plate as another SUV pulled up behind them and three armed men jumped out and shot them dead before fleeing.
Cops now believe Mirna may have been linked to the crime after officers caught her in the prison cell of a drug dealer suspected of having ordered the killings.
Local media have identified the glamorous young woman as the daughter of Oscar Romero, the Health and Hygiene Secretary of Pedro Juan Caballero and former mayor of the city.
She has 1,955 followers on Instagram, where she describes herself as “armed, loved and spoilt”.
Victim Haylee was the daughter of Oscar Romero’s successor, Ronald Acevedo. Both men have been accused of enriching themselves through overpriced works during their times as mayor.
Though her killing came the day before her father’s reelection, the police believe the crime was not related to politics and that the criminals’ real target may have been Bebeto.
Bebeto is being investigated for possible links to drug trafficking and a criminal gang in Sao Paulo, which is vying for dominance in the Brazil-Paraguay border region.
The two other victims were from the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul and were studying medicine with Haylee in the Paraguayan city.
According to the police, Mirna was found in the VIP prison cell complete with a TV, king-size bed and wardrobe of Faustino Roman Aguayo Cabanas.
Faustino is being held in the Regional Penitentiary of Pedro Juan Caballero on suspicion of trafficking three tonnes of drugs and Mirna was found in his cell during a police inspection.
Investigators suspect he may have ordered Bebeto’s death out of jealousy because Bebeto was allegedly Mirna’s boyfriend and he may have also been romantically involved with her.
Local media report that only two years ago, Mirna had married a former federal agent, who was executed in December last year.
A hairstylist named Emilio Villalba who was arrested on Thursday, 14th October, is also under investigation.
He often comments on Mirna’s social media posts and is said to have called Bebeto shortly before he was shot.
Pedro Juan Caballero and Ponta Pora, which are separated by a single street, are notoriously lawless, seeing eight murders between Friday, 8th October, and Friday, 15th October, alone.
The police are currently working to determine if the killings of Haylee, Bebeto, Kaline and Rhannye were related to drug trafficking or if they were motivated by jealousy.
