This woman has become the first female doctor to die from coronavirus in Spain with her body being found alone in her kitchen after she went into self-isolation.

According to local media, doctor Isabel Munoz, 59, put herself in a strict quarantine in her house in the city of Salamanca in the north-western Spanish autonomous community of Castile and Leon.

The health professional decided to do so when she noticed the first symptoms of COVID-19 even though she had not been tested.

Reports said the doctor sent her husband to stay over with her family in her home village of Villaflor and she refused to receive visits.

The doctor’s brother Jesus Munoz told local media: “Her only obsession was not to infect anybody.”

Munoz’s husband and her brother were reportedly worried on Tuesday when they called her several times but she did not answer the phone.

Local media report that local police found her dead in her kitchen after a neighbour went to her house to check on her and nobody opened the door.

Local authorities confirmed this Wednesday that Munoz died because she was infected with COVID-19.

Her brother said she had told him and her husband not to worry as her temperature was decreasing.

Jesus Munoz said: “I do not know if she said it to avoid worrying us.”

Munoz was reportedly a very well-respected doctor in the city with more than 1,300 patients under her care and she will be buried in Villaflor next to her parents after being cremated.
