Suspect Gavan Rogers, 24, was arrested after horrified hospital medics called police when they spotted the teeth marks during a health check.

Rogers – from the city of Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana State, USA – was charged with neglect and battery on Tuesday, 14th March.

Mother Chelsea Blakely and Rogers had taken the baby to nearby Witham Hospital in the city of Lebanon for a check-up.

But medics refused to send the baby home after finding mouth-shaped bruises on her forearms, stomach, shoulders, knee and leg.

The baby was transferred to the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, while medics called police.

Detective Joseph Turney was told by nurses they had overheard Rogers calling his daughter a “little b*tch”, “ungrateful” and “evil” just after her birth.

An affidavit which was obtained by Newsflash from police disclosed one report which said: “On dayshift 30th October 2022, [Madison Rogula] observed a distinct difference in [the baby’s] behaviour when being handled by [the father] versus when not.

“While in the room, I witnessed him talking to the baby in aggressive ways and calling her names such as ‘ungrateful’ and ‘little bitch’.

“Another time in the room, he had the baby completely undressed and laying in his lap. The baby was physically cold and crying while he watched and recorded videos of her crying.

“I took the baby to dress her and told dad she should be dressed, or she will be cold, and that swaddling can help calm her.

“I am not comfortable sending this baby home to the care of [the father].”

A second report by nurse Demitra Minetos stated: “[The baby] started to fuss while this nurse was present in the room.

“Father appeared frustrated and stated she is ‘evil’. Mom was silent and struggled to calm the infant.”

The nurses said that Rogers got so frustrated each time the infant cried they had to explain the dangers of baby shaking.

When questioned by police, Rogers said that he had been staying with the baby and Chelsea for the past two weeks ago.

He added that he normally lives with his parents.

He claimed the bruises came from “play bites” and he must have “nibbled too hard”.

Turney said he had counted at least six bite marks on the newborn and added: “These injuries could only have been inflicted while using excessive force, which would have caused severe pain to the [victim].”
