This is the moment farmer howls in agony after one of his legs was sucked into a plough and impaled by a thick metallic tooth as the machine turned.

The horrific freak accident happened in the village of Shangtangjia in Yongzhou, which is in Central China’s Hunan Province, on 8th April.

Footage of the rescue shows firefighters arriving to find the elderly farmer lying face down on his field, his right leg bent and trapped in an awkward posture inside the plough.

One of the teeth of the iron harrow has pierced his right calf and he is unable to move as rescuers and other villagers try find a way to free his limb.

According to reports, the farmer had been using the plough minutes earlier when an apparent lapse in concentration caused the accident.

He can be heard howling in pain as firefighters begin dismantling the plough, eventually lifting his right leg out from under the harrow.

The metal spike, however, was kept inside his calf as they feared yanking it out would cause uncontrollable blood loss.

He is seen carried across the field and into an ambulance with the thick piece of iron still embedded in his leg.

The authorities said the rescue took all but 15 minutes, but he is believed to have endured an hours-long hospital procedure to have the harrow tooth removed.

It was still unclear at the time of writing whether he would suffer any permanent damage to his leg.
