DOCTOR’S ERROR: Baby Transferred To Another Hospital After Surgeon Injures It During Caesarean Section

A baby has been transferred to another hospital after a surgeon had injured it while performing a caesarean section.

The incident occurred in the Glogowski District Hospital in the city of Glogow, western Poland on Friday, 14th October 2022.

Polish media reported that the surgeon had accidentally cut the newborn’s perineum while it was still in the womb, without realising it.

The injuries were later noticed by another doctor who at the time was examining the baby in accordance with regular check-up practices.

However, follow-up examinations showed that the wound was not life-threatening for the infant.

Hospital spokesperson Ewa Todorov said: “During the operation, the newborn was injured by accident.

“The child’s general condition after the delivery was good.

“The injuries were noticed by a neonatologist examining the child after delivery.

“After consulting the doctor of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, it was decided to transport the newborn to the clinic at Borowska Street in Wroclaw.”

Todorov furthermore explained that performing a C-section was necessary for the expectant mother and emphasised that such surgeries can potentially carry the risk of complications.

In addition, the most common C-section complications include infection of the postoperative wound, adhesions in the reproductive organs and growths (endometriosis) in the postoperative scar.

The media reported that the newborn’s parents have not filed a complaint against the responsible doctor or the hospital as yet.

Meanwhile, a baby girl from Brazil named Isabella was possibly scarred for life after obstetricians cut her face while delivering her by caesarian section three months ago.

Her family filed a police report against the hospital, which said in a statement that it had “adopted the necessary measures and provided immediate support in the case with the assistance of a paediatrician and a plastic surgeon”.

But the little one’s parents remain unsure whether Isabella’s scar will ever disappear or if she will need plastic surgery in future.
