This is the horrific moment when a young woman lying down on the road is run over by a taxi travelling at speed.

Eyewitnesses told how the young woman walked into the road in front of oncoming traffic and danced on the tarmac.

She was wearing headphones and appeared to be drunk, they said.

Bizarrely, she got down onto her back and kicked her legs in the air as she lay on the tarmac.

Footage filmed by an onlooker shows how a car stopped nearby as if to warn oncoming traffic to stop.

But a taxi in the adjacent lane sped into view and carried the young woman off-screen down the tarmac.

A second piece of footage shows how the Kia K5 ran over the young woman with a sickening squelch.

The incident took place in the centre of Saint Petersburg, Russia, in the early morning of 16th November.

Local officials did not reveal the victim’s name but said she was born in 1994.

Emergency services arrived on the scene but were only able to pronounce her dead.

The taxi driver’s name was also withheld, but local media described him as a male in his mid-twenties.

The case is being investigated.
