According to local media, sisters Ana and Hanna, who were eight and five years old, were playing with their cousin Sofia on a hammock in the garden of their house that their father had tied to two concrete columns. The girls had reportedly been camping in the garden.

Reports said the columns crumbled on the three girls killing the two sisters immediately while their cousin Sofia was badly injured.

Ana and Hanna reportedly died from the impact of the columns while their cousin Sofia was transferred to a nearby hospital where she is in intensive care.

Marcos Romero, the uncle of the two deceased girls and the father of Sofia told local media: “My daughter is alive because of a miracle. A piece of the column hit her head and she needed fifty stitches to her head.”

The grandfather of the girls, Henry Caldero, told local media: “It was a job badly done. They should have put iron inside the columns and they did not do it. They were happy girls and kids like to play”.

The two deceased girls are at a morgue and their bodies will be given to their families to be buried.

Sofia is recovering at the hospital where her health condition is stable and her life is not at risk, according to reports.
