With Christmas fast approaching these turkeys certainly had a good reason to cross the road in order to get as far away from their bird farm as possible.

Unfortunately, they ended up spending too much time posturing in the middle of the road and were eventually rounded up again by their owner.

The bizarre sight of the gobbling turkeys in the middle-of-the-road took place in the city of Pushkin just outside Russia’s second city of St Petersburg and was recorded on a smart phone camera by one of the drivers who was blocked by them.

He caught the moment that the three turkeys attempted to cross the road, seemingly not bothered by the vehicles on either side of them that clearly want to get past.

There were particular flustered by the fact that one of the drivers started honking his horn, which stop the moving completely and instead they stood in the road making a fuss.

It is unclear who long did drivers were kept waiting for the turkeys were ushered off the road by the owner and returned to their cages.

Local residents said they were kept at a farm nearby which belongs to a restaurant chain and online commentators joked that the turkeys should have kept on going.

Netizen ‘Borisych’ said: “This is hilarious.”

Another guest user of a local Internet forum added: “Those are some stubborn birds!”

The city of Pushkin was founded in 1710 as an imperial residence named Tsarskoye Selo or Tsar’s village and it was given the name it now has in 1937 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
