According to local media, Chen Xueyan, a hospital worker in the county-level city of Longchang located in the southern Chinese province of Sichuan, went on holiday to Nepal just before the coronavirus outbreak hit.

While she was enjoying her holiday, Xueyan heard from hospital colleagues that there was a shortage of face masks, and she immediately put her holiday on hold and started visiting as many pharmacies in the area of her hotel as she could, according to reports.

Local media said the thoughtful nurse managed to buy a total of 5,800 face masks, and to bring them back she had to bin the extra clothes she brought along for the holiday.

According to reports, she returned to China with four bags packed with masks to hand out to local residents.

Xueyan’s heartwarming story follows news of a villager who was ‘paid’ by his boss in face masks instead of cash which he then kindly donated to concerned residents for free.

According to reports, the man handed out a total of 18,000 masks to other villagers.
