This footage shows how cops rescued a newborn whose mother had abandoned it in a thicket in a Hungarian vineyard.

Heartbreaking footage of the rescue shows the newborn covered in dirt, with large insects seen scuttling across its body.

Hungarian police found the newborn in Marfa vineyard, close to Pecs in south-western Hungary.

Croatian police had notified their Hungarian counterparts late on 16th June that a hospital in Osijek, Croatia, had given medical care to a 31-year-old local woman.

She told the hospital that she had given birth across the border earlier that afternoon.

When the Hungarian cops found the baby, an officer with a medical decree provided first care for the infant before an ambulance arrived.

The baby was taken to a local hospital, where it tragically passed away.

Local media reported that the baby’s mother was a day labourer on the vineyard and might have been concealing her pregnancy.

Cops believe she abandoned the infant on purpose and they are now investigating her for murder.
