A British national has has had their collar felt by Indian cops after putting up a sign offering “Anti-Coronavirus Juice” at his cafe.

Local media report the unnamed British national, 60, runs the Coffee Temple cafe in the popular tourist town of Varkala in the southeastern Indian state of Kerala.

Reports state he put up an advertising board outside the cafe offering “Anti-Corona Virus Juice” for 150 INR (1.72 GBP).

Local residents are said to have reported the board to the police who went to the scene to question the owner about the board.

He reportedly told the officers that the juice was made up of ginger, lemon and gooseberry and that he had decided to label it anti-coronavirus to highlight the general medicinal properties of the herbal juice, saying it had no proven resistance to the virus.

According to the police, he had not sold any of the juice and he was released after receiving a strong warning from the authorities who said he did not have any “dubious intentions” with the advert.

India has suffered 176 confirmed cases of COVID-19, leading to three deaths. Reports state an Italian tourist who had stayed in Varkala tested positive for the virus.
