A beautiful student has been killed in a devastating crash after she was hit by both a scooter and a car while crossing the street.
Biology freshman Chiara Adorno, 19, from the commune of Solarino, in Sicily, Italy, was crossing the Viale Andrea Doria road in the city of Catania when a Honda scooter hit her, throwing her on the asphalt.
But before she was able to regain her consciousness and run away, she was run over by a Fiat Punto, leaving her dead on the spot on Tuesday, 7th November.
Emergency crews that arrived on site could only confirm her death.
Her boyfriend, name and age not disclosed, who was with her at the time and was only hit by the scooter, was brought to a local hospital with slight injuries. He was discharged soon after.
After the accident, Catania’s Public Prosecutor launched a vehicular manslaughter investigation against the two drivers.
University of Catania’s rector Francesco Priolo, where the young woman had studied, said: “The entire community mourns the passing of Chiara Adorno.
“We are still in disbelief, and we are shocked by the young life that was taken away, and we join her family in their grief.
“We need a mutual collaboration between all institutions so that such tragedies never happen again.”
Solarino Mayor, Giuseppe Germano, 41, said: ‘Another tragic loss. There are no words, only tears and sorrow.
“Chiara was a child, I know her family, they are wonderful people.
“It’s unacceptable, you send your daughter to university and they give her back to you in a coffin.”
Chiara is survived by her mother, father, and older sister.
