Banksy Style Artist Erects Statue Of Romping Rats On City Roundabout

A concrete statue of two rats copulating has appeared on a roundabout in Leon in Spain, prompting residents to dub the artist the ‘Leonese Banksy’ after a concrete penis appeared in the city last year.

The two mating rats appeared at the Leon Technology Park in the city of Leon in the Spanish region of Castile and Leon in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Local residents woke up to the sight of two giant rats copulating in the middle of the park roundabout.

It is not the first time locals have been surprised by the mysterious artist’s concrete works, after a giant penis appeared on an access roundabout to one of the city’s hospitals in May 2021.

On that occasion, the offensive statue was removed by the city authorities within hours.

However, the romping rats currently remain fixed on the roundabout and it is unclear if the local authorities plan to remove them.

Like with last year’s phallic monument, the rat statue was unsigned. However, locals believe they were produced by the same person ‘ dubbed the ‘Leonese Banksy’.

The rats statue, as with previous sculptures, is made of white cement and has a sexual theme.

According to local laws, the anonymous artist could face a fine of EUR 80 for causing an obstruction. However, it is unclear if the police are trying to identify the mysterious artist.
