Alabama Man Charged With Two Counts Of Murder After Shooting Pregnant Wife In Head

A man in Alabama has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after he allegedly shot his pregnant wife in the head, killing her and their unborn child.

The incident took place in Prattville, which is a city located in the southern US state of Alabama, on 18th October.

The police arrived at 800 block of Sunset Court after receiving reports of someone being shot, according to local media outlet WSFA News.

The woman, who has been named by local media outlet WLBT news as Summer Knight Tatum, 26, was reportedly a registered radiologic technologist and qualified to use medical imaging technology. She was taken to hospital but died of her injuries.

She was reportedly five months pregnant when she was shot and her baby boy did not survive either. Doctors attempted to save the infant, but after successfully delivering him, he later died in intensive care.

The woman’s family have confirmed to WLBT that the baby was named Everett.

A fundraiser has been set up to help pay for the victims’ funeral expenses. At the time of writing, it had raised just over USD 3,800 out of a USD 40,000 goal (https://www.gofundme.com/f/funeral-expenses-for-summer-and-baby).

Her husband, Hunter James Tatum, 25, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

A motive has not yet been provided for the double murder and the police are investigating the incident.
