Wisconsin Mum, 35, Dies After Protecting Son From Pit Bull Attack

A 35-year-old woman has died after protecting her young son from a pit bull attack.

Heather Pingel, who hailed from the village of Bowler in Shawano County in the US state of Wisconsin, died while protecting her four-year-old son on 8th December.

The police report said the victim’s boyfriend, name not disclosed, arrived home after their child had fallen down the front steps. Their dog then bit the fallen boy and Pingel immediately intervened and tried to pull the pit bull away from her young son.

The dog then attacked Pingel and caused serious injuries to the young mother.

Her boyfriend reportedly shot and killed the dog during the incident.

According to local media, the police arrived on the scene and found the victim with terrible injuries that included the loss of her arms.

The police report said the dog had been mistreated before living with the couple and had a known history of aggression.

Meanwhile, Pingel was taken to a hospital in the city of Wausau, but died of her injuries on Thursday.

Her sister Shannon Pingel said: “She was an amazing artist growing up. I always wished I could draw like her. I’m going to miss how wonderful she was as a mother. She did anything and everything for her two kids. She was a stay at home who loved her job. And her kids adore her. I’m going to miss calling her and asking when she was going to be here… because she was always running late. I’m just going to miss everything about her.”

Shannon also launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with medical and funeral costs with the message: “My sister has 2 kids with her boyfriend. Yesterday he lost his job and today the unimaginable happened! A dog attacked their son and she did what any amazing mother would and sacrificed herself to save him. He is doing good a lot of stitches but nothing to serious.

“My sister was not so lucky, she lost her life saving her sons. She is nothing but a hero. We need help with medical bills, funeral cost, and help raising her 2 beautiful babies. She was way too young to leave and this is all so sudden and shocking.”
