Pretty Acid Attack Victim To Face Female Attacker Who Considered Her Romantic Rival In Court

This pretty woman whose face was disfigured when a woman she never met before threw sulphuric acid on her will have to face her attacker for the first time in court later this year.

The defendant allegedly considered the victim a romantic rival and carried out the attack in a rage when she saw a Facebook exchange between her and her boyfriend.

Ioanna Paliospyrou, 35, was left scarred for life after she had sulphuric acid thrown on her face in the municipality of Kallithea in the Athens urban area in Greece on 20th May last year.

In the case’s most recent development, the date for the trial involving three judges and four jurors was set for 15th September this year.

Ioanna told ANT1: “Despite looking forward to it, the fact that the date of the trial is set is something that has upset me and brought back painful memories of last year.”

A 36-year-old woman will face trial for attempted murder rather than just grievous bodily harm after the prosecutor in the case said all the evidence suggested she intended to kill Ioanna.

The disguised woman, then 35, allegedly attacked Ioanna, then 34, with a large quantity of liquid believed to be sulphuric acid as she arrived at her workplace.

The substance was so strong that it even melted the wall of the building, which got splashed in the attack.

CCTV footage shows Ioanna being rushed from the scene in the aftermath of the attack. She had to undergo multiple operations in the weeks and months that followed.

Ioanna had no idea who had attacked her and why, and it was only three weeks after the attack that the suspect was arrested in the Athenian suburb of Zografou.

Inside her home, cops found a rucksack, trousers, a trench coat and a wig identical to the ones worn by the perpetrator in the attack.

Her arrest was ordered and carried out on 11th June. She originally protested her innocence, but 11 months later, she confessed: “I never intended to kill her, but to hurt and injure her”.

Investigators believe she carried out the crime in a rage after she saw an exchange on Facebook between her boyfriend and the victim.
