This is the moment an 84-year-old COVID-19 patient leaves a makeshift clinic in an OAP home in Spain and is applauded by confetti-throwing medics.

Luis Anselmo Rodriguez was treated for COVID-19 at the La Abubilla retirement home in the northern Spanish province of Huesca after it was converted into a medical centre to treat elderly people with symptoms of the virus.

The OAP had arrived at the centre from a retirement home in the city of Zaragoza two weeks ago.

Following a fortnight of treatment, Anselmo Rodriguez was taken back to the nursing home in Zaragoza by ambulance.

The video shows the moment he is cheered leaving the makeshift clinic in Huesca.

He says: “This [moment] cannot be bought with money.”

Nursing home director Mateo Ferrer told local media: “It was a reward for all the hours of dedication and effort carried out by many people, especially health workers who are doing an incredibly valuable job.”

According to local media, the makeshift centre has 46 occupied beds being cared for by 55 medical professionals, caterers, cleaners and administrators.

The La Abubilla home was converted into a medical centre on 23rd March and is treating elderly patients from nearby retirement homes who had mild symptoms of COVID-19 but did not require hospitalisation.

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University, Spain has registered 148,220 cases of COVID-19, 14,792 deaths and 48,021 recoveries.
