This is the moment three young men crossing a road on a scooter are blown away by a BMW at high speed on a zebra crossing.

Footage has emerged of the incident which police say took place at 7:32pm local time on 16th November.

Traffic camera video shows the trio without helmets on the back of the scooter as the driver prepares to cross Tiyu Road in the city of Foshan in South China’s Guangdong Province.

Just moments after the they enter the road and the scooter reaches the pedestrian crossing, the trio look to their right and see the headlights of the blue BMW saloon coming towards them.

The motorist, who is reportedly suspected of speeding, crashes straight into the side of the scooter, and all three men are swept out of frame in an instant.

A motorcyclist who was also preparing to cross the same road stops in his tracks as the accident happens in a flash right in front of him.

Foshan police said one of the scooter passengers lost his life, while a second was injured during the accident.

A third scooter passenger and the BMW’s driver, who crashed to a stop against a bridge pier, were not seriously harmed.

The saloon owner was cleared of drink- and drug-driving, but they have been detained as investigations into the crash continue.

The police said the scooter did not have number plates.
