This footage – seen over 14 million times – shows an arguing couple standing in the middle of a busy road when both are hit by a passing car.
Video of the incident in April was released by police in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, on 6th November.
In the video, the young lovers, who were reportedly both students, are seen quarrelling in the middle of the road, with the boyfriend spreading his arms in an apparent bid to be struck by a car.
When his girlfriend approaches from behind and tries to stop him, she is elbowed in the midriff by her partner, who proceeds to ignore her as she kneels down in pain.
As the young woman recovers from the blow, she and her boyfriend are both hit by the passing vehicle just moments later, the police said.
The distressing video shows the young woman being thrown across the road by the collision, while her boyfriend suffers more minor injuries and is immediately able to stand back up.
According to Guangzhou police, the young woman was taken to hospital but later died of her injuries.
Her boyfriend was arrested for endangering their lives as well as those of other motorists.
He remains in custody and awaits a trial date, while the motorist is also expected to face manslaughter charges.
