Witnesses said long queuing had already formed outside the supermarket before its doors opened, and the eager shoppers could not even wait for the shutter gate to fully open before climbing inside.

The video shows the sprightly shoppers on their hands and knees as they climb into the supermarket underneath the opening roller shutter door, pushing the metal gate upwards and bending it out of shape as they charge inside.

Supermarket staff members are left watching in stunned disbelief as the middle-aged and elderly shoppers rush to the egg section.

According to reports, Sanjiang Supermarket’s limited-time deal was offering a kilogramme of fresh eggs for just 4 RMB (46 p).

Each person was only allowed one purchase while stocks lasted.

The eggs were snatched up in minutes, reports said.

Social media users have described the mob of crazed shoppers as being ‘like zombies’.

‘Ruo Yang’, a user on Weibo, China’s equivalent to Twitter, wrote: “They’re like zombies from the game Dead Rising!

“Are we really meant to give up our bus seats to them?”
