A man who shot his girlfriend and her sister dead after the former dumped him was gunned down himself during a police chase, say officials.
Furious Adam Cobb, 32, shot ex Jamie L. Joyner, 30, and 34-year-old sister Jessica Joyner dead as she tried to move out of their home on 2nd April.
He also reportedly shot the family dog before fleeing, apparently after reporting the killings to local police in Illinois.
Major Jeff Connor of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department is quoted in local media as saying that the woman wanted to break up with him and leave the house.
Police found the two women dead after responding to a call about 10.30am on Saturday.
Jessica was from California, according to the police, and had come to Illinois to help her sister Jamie with her breakup.
The authorities are quoted in local media as having said that Cobb fled the scene after the shooting, but he was tracked down by the authorities thanks to his mobile phone.
He was shot dead by officers after pointing his gun at police after they had halted his car.
State police said: “The driver of the suspect vehicle exited and pointed a firearm in the direction of an ISP Trooper.”
They also reportedly said: “The ISP Trooper discharged their duty weapon in the direction of the suspect.
“The suspect was taken to a regional hospital for the treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries. The cause and nature of those injuries is under investigation.
“No law enforcement officers were injured in this incident.”
Cobb reportedly died on Sunday.
The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office said in a statement attributed to Coroner Jim Allmon and obtained by Newsflash: “The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, can confirm the death of Adam Cobb, 32, of Granite City, IL. Mr. Cobb was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital on 4/2/2022 from Christian County. Mr. Cobb died as an inpatient on 4/3/2022 at 04:40am.
“An autopsy was done today and preliminary findings suggest Mr. Cobb died from multiple gunshot wounds. The classification of the manner of death will be determined through an investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office. The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Illinois State Police.”
