The young woman has been killed when the motorbike she was riding on with her boyfriend was hit from behind by a car that then ran her over before the driver fled.
The police have opened an investigation into the accident that took the life of Jeane Fagundes, 20, and injured her boyfriend in the Brazilian coastal municipality of Balneario Camboriu on the night of 7th February.
The suspect has since been identified but has not yet been located at the time of reporting. His identity has not been disclosed by the police.
The victims just returned from a weekend camping trip with friends when their motorbike the victim was on with her boyfriend was hit from behind by the wayward vehicle.
After running over Jeane, the driver sped off, hitting a pedestrian in the process, who escaped without serious injuries.
The car was found abandoned shortly after the incident close to the scene with its front part badly damaged.
Witnesses said they saw two men abandoning the vehicle and fleeing towards the beach.
Jeane’s boyfriend Ariel was taken to hospital following the incident. He is said to be physically well but in a state of shock over the death of his girlfriend, who was in the final year of her nutrition degree.
Jeane’s friend Luiza Parucker told local media: “She was a funny, fun super upbeat girl.”
Her funeral was attended by a select group of family members due to COVID-19 restrictions on 8th February.
