This young pregnant woman has been shot dead by her estranged husband killing his unborn child as well in ‘revenge’ for her breaking up with him.
Yasmin Bialik Fernandes da Silva, 21, was shot dead on the street outside her cousin’s house in the Brazilian municipality of Agua Limpa on the night of Saturday, 18th September.
She was three months pregnant.
The suspect has been named as her estranged husband, Marco Aurelio Leones Barbosa, who fled the scene on a motorbike after committing the crime. The police have not yet found him.
The suspect is the son of local councillor Hudnal Rodrigues from the centre-right Democrats party.
Barbosa is believed to have committed the crime in ‘revenge’ for his wife breaking up with him.
He is believed to have fired at least six gunshots at the young woman, four of which hit her, causing her and her unborn baby to die at the scene.
Despite being married, he and the victim had only been together for eight months, and the couple had broken up a week before the crime took place.
The police want the suspect on charges of aggravated femicide and child destruction.
A friend of the victim who wished to remain anonymous told news site G1 that the suspect had previously threatened the victim on several occasions, describing him as “very abusive”.
Yasmin was buried in Agua Limpa on Monday, 20th September. The police investigation into the crime is ongoing.
